Spring Has Sprung (and is still springing)~

It appears that Spring has sprung! Little pear blossom buds are popping forth, apple blossoms are swelling, fresh leaves on the alders have given the gray trees just the slightest hint of green. Gardening preparation has begun!

Another raised bed has been constructed, and filled with soil and compost. Each year we try to make one or more new garden boxes, because that is the only way we have found to keep the gophers at bay. They have gathered and hoarded our potatoes, eaten our veggies from artichoke to zucchini, with everything in between~!

With hardware cloth on the bottom of the beds, the gophers cannot get into the boxes with the ROOTS!

We have planted a new fig tree, and we would like to get a new apple tree to replace the old one that just fell over last fall, after a big rain. Good to have those fruit producing trees!

We overwintered in our southern Baja home, where we worked on our little casita in the foothills, spent time at the beach, and went on some wonderful mountain hikes! I crocheted a little rug with fabric strips for our house, and finished a quilt I had started quite a few years ago to top our southern home cama (bed).

The urge to collage is very strong now, I know I would spend every waking minute in the art room CREATING if I could. But life does go on, and there are other details to take care of. So "everything in moderation" should be my keyword here! I did create a tribute to spring, though, a fun collaged cigar box, with lots of flowers, and functional too!

Hummingbirds are zipping around, fighting over feeders, their red feathers flashing! We have a pair of Canada geese that are resting and nibbling in our fields, the horses are a little curious about them!
